Shalom Dear Brothers and Sisters Gideon and His Father Now remember, Gideon was not afraid of his father but rather his father's household. Obviously his father had hired people who have lost all hope in God and had taken up following after the gods of the people around them. When the Angel of the Lord first appeared to Gideon an interesting conversation took place. Obviously his father had been faithful in telling Gideon about all the things the Lord God had done for them when He brought them out of Egypt. As instructed by God through Moses according to Deuteronomy 4:9-10 because Gideon asks "the Angel of the Lord", if the Lord is with us why does He not do the miracles for us as He did when He brought us into this land. Gideon himself had not seen God do any of the miracles but his father had faithfully told him because his father had probably faithfully told him about the great and awesome deeds and miracles Lord God did when He delivered them from the hands of Pharaoh. God loves to deliver His people when they turn to Him with their whole heart and cry out to Him. Our God is a covenant keeping God, when He says He will do something you can believe Him. Gideon's fathers stood firmly behind Gideon after he had destroyed the altar. I think it was a wake-up call for his father but I also believe his father knew God was going to do something great again in their midst if they would return to Him again. That is why the father made the statement in verse 31 "if he is a god let him plead for himself because his altar has been torn down". When the father saw the courage of his own son, Gideon, and the 10 men with him, it gave him the courage to stand up against the other people. Sometimes we need others to stand alongside of us when we feel weak or down trodden. That's why we need to call on our brothers and sisters to pray for us in our times of need, to intercede on our behalf, to come and stand alongside of us. This is not a sign of weakness rather this is a sign of wisdom. It also shows unity in the body of believers just as Gideon and the 10 men worked together, they found favor with both man and God and were united in their mission because it was first birthed by God. Do not be afraid to call for help when you feel everything is coming against you! Yes, the Lord is with you but also he has given you brothers and sisters, other mighty men and women of valor, to stand alongside of you to do the work that he is called you to do. Believe me no matter where you are at, you have been called to do something no matter how big or small it may seem.The key is obedience and keeping our eyes focused on Yahweh!
