I Thirst

Throughout each of the gospel's it is recorded that Yeshua is offered a drink of Gaul (sour wine mixed with vinegar).  Each time he refuses by simply turning away his head.  Only in John's Gospel is it recorded where Yeshua actually says, "I thirst" 19:28.  In verse 30 he finally cries out, "it is finished".

As I pondered about the statement "I thirst" I don't really think he was physically thirsty for something to drink.  I think that statement was a cry to the Father.  As Yeshua was bearing the sins of the world upon Him for the very first time He was being separated from the Father.  He was thirsting for the intimate relationship that He had never been without before.  He was thirsting to be reconciled with the Father.  He was thirsting for it to be over so He could once again be reunited with the Father.

As I read that statement these were the things that flooded my soul as I heard the words the Master when He stated, "if any man thirst let him come follow me, I will give him living waters that he may thirst no more", (my paraphrase).  I realize this has no doctrinal foundation it's just what came to my heart as I read that.  Imagine being so closely knit together with the Father's Heart and never being separated from it the only words you can use to describe how you feel is, "I thirst".

The more time we spend alone in what I like to call the secret place the closer we will become one with the Father.  Why did Yeshua say, all you who are thirsty come to Me?  Because when we come to Him, He leads us straight to the Father!  Not only do we have redemption, deliverance and atonement from sin because of the shed blood of the pure spotless lamb.  He is also the Word that dwelt and walked among us, John 1.  Without the Word of God or the sacrifice of Yeshua we would not be able to enter His presence.

What a wonderful privilege we had been given, oh that we would spend more time crying out I thirst.  That we would spend each day some true real quality time in the Word and with the Father.  What marvelous pearls the Lord would share with us when we take the time to sit at His Feet and learn from Him.  Psalm 14:2 says, "the Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men to see if there are any who have understanding to seek God".  That's a pretty clear statement.

I realize Yeshua was probably physically thirsty why else would they have these containers and with Gaul in them handy.  It was probably common practice.  But Yeshua's mind and the heart was always looking towards the Father.  When He taught us to pray He said to address "Our Father in Heaven".

Oh that we would be ones that would diligently understand to seek God that our thirst would become the thirst for the things of God and not so much the things of this world.  It is so difficult in this day and age so many things call for our attention.  They take us away from what should be our first love.  I to struggle with the distractions and concerns of this world that so quickly draw me out of the quiet secret place.  Yet when I return my thirst is satisfied there!

B'Shem Yeshua Hamashiach, Amen
